15 Things to do before you are 50
Things or experiences you always wanted to have but work, kids, money, and life, in general, have got in the way, so it has been put back to the back of your mind? Bucket lists are common terminology these days so there is no harm in having one to tick off alongside everyday life.
Just think about what you would do if tomorrow you suddenly had unlimited money and time to do whatever you wish… What have you always wanted to do or where have you wished you could visit?
A bucket list of things to do before you turn 50 does not have to be something daring or expensive; sometimes your bucket list might just be about traveling or personal development. Think about when a friend or family member has told you of an experience they have had, and you have found yourself wishing you could so the same. Now we know that Bucket lists are subjective and of course they should be, but we are just here to put in ideas in your mind. So here you go…
1- Travel Alone
Traveling alone is a completely different experience than traveling with someone else. You get to do what you do when you want to, and it is when you learn to love yourself without depending on anyone else.
2- Call up an old friend or friends
If there is someone you have not spoken to in a few years or even a decade. Reach out to them in the one-tap, social media world that we live in, If there is no reason to even call them, just send them a message.
3- Travel Together
With that said, traveling together with someone you love can bring you closer than you could have imagined. The real person comes out when you travel with them, and it is better to have this experience now than sooner.
4- Start something of your own
Leaving a legacy behind is one of the most important things in my life, and to many of the happiest people in the world, because they have something to live for. Leaving something behind, beyond your physical presence, can be powerful just to think about. It can be a non-profit, your own business, a movement. It does not matter what it is. Just start one.
5- Give Back
It is only when we live for something beyond ourselves that we feel a sense of purpose and fulfilment. Giving back does not have to be done only at an individual level.
6- Start a Journal
Recording down your present thoughts and reviewing it years later can be incredibly fulfilling to see how far you have come. It can be a blog, vlog, podcast, or a journal that you keep for yourself. The world deserves to hear your message.
7- Attend the religious event (that is not your own)
This may seem controversial, but most of us have either never been to a religious event or only attended one (probably the one you were born into).
Whether you are religious or not, why not explore to understand what other types of religious faiths that exist? This might take you to some eye-opening truths and break a lot of myths for you.
8- Learn to live alone happily
Depending on someone else to be happy is no way to live. Knowing that you can love yourself and find happiness alone, can be one of the most freeing discoveries in your life.
9- Commit to a health Ritual
This is a common pattern that I see in nearly every person that hits 30 or 35. Their priority of health starts to become the #1 priority in their life, even over wealth. What is the point of accumulating wealth, if you’re not in a healthy state to enjoy it?
10- Have your own signature dish
You may not need to know how to cook. But every person needs a signature dish. Keep it as your secret weapon.
11- Buy a fine wine for the future of you today.
Buy a wine today which you might want to drink in the next 20 years. Do you know the best part? You can do this with your long-lost friends as a ritual. Age like a fine wine
12- Adopt a Pet
Be it a cat or a dog or maybe a bird, make a decision to turn someone’s life around. We swear you will not regret this decision. And we repeat, adopt, do not buy.
13- Learn a new language
If you have spent your entire life knowing only one language (English), you have put a glass ceiling on yourself, because you can only reach 12% of this world’s population. Learning a new language is the catalyst that opens up doors to new cultures, people, and opportunities. Especially, learning how to speak Spanish alone can nearly double your global reach, and allow you to have a global perspective and a deeper understanding of the world outside your current limits.
14- Become a Mentor
If you have been mentored sometime in your life, then you understand how powerful it can be to someone’s destiny. Become that light at the end of the tunnel for someone in need, it can be one of the best choices you make.
15- Visit the Northern Lights
Now, this might sound cliche and might be found most of the bucket list but witnessing this natural light show is an experience for life. Your soul will smile a little brighter and we are not even exaggerating.
So, these were a few things we could think of you could use when you decide to make a bucket list. If you are not taking any action to turn your life now, chances are you will live the same routine for the rest of your time.
Maybe life is uncertain for you now, but you are capable of taking back the control of your life. Till then, keep experimenting and keep adding things to do on this list.
